My Indoor Garden Experience – Gardyn Week 1

Let the Sprouting Begin...

With the purchase of the Gardyn system, you are provided 30 yCube pods in the starter kit. Some of the yCubes contain a duplicate of the same plant. For example, I received 3 Butterleaf lettuce yCubes. I only filled 24 of my spots and capped the other 6 (that is the amount of caps supplied in the start-up kit). I thought it would be good to stagger them so I always have something growing. The remaining 6 yCubes (or ones that I seed on my own) will need to placed in a shallow container of water until they sprout before placing them on the Gardyn system. The reason for this is because the plant food will be added to the system on day 10 and the plant food can inhibit the sprouting process. Gardyn sells a small Sprouting Gardyn but I my plan is to use a leftover to-go container with clear lid when I’m ready to sprout new plants.

Below is the list of plants that I placed in my new Gardyn system and on which day they started to sprout. I can’t believe that half sprouted by day 3.

Kelby the AI Assistant - Week 1

I got a few messages in the App from Kelby. Most were just informative such as a reminder to not to add plant food until day 10 and a reminder to join their Facebook group. Other than that, my 1st week with my new Gardyn was pretty hands off. Although, I did check on it every time I passed out of curiosity and excitement for it to grow something. To my surprise, I had sprouts on Day 3!

It’s been very hard not to poke and prod at them like petting an animal. I’ve been following along on the Facebook Gardyn page and it’s been nice to hear about other peoples experience and ideas. For example, someone’s husband made a nice mobile cart to put their Gardyn on. Several other Facebook followers have purchased a cart from him. What a great idea! Other people have great tips on how to protect their Gardyn from pets by putting up small barrier fence at the bottom. Again, tons of ideas and tips being eagerly spread among the group. It’s really refreshing to be a part of such an engaged and helpful group of people.

Ready for Week 2

As mentioned in my previous post, my plan was to try out the Kelby AI assistant to see what I can learn about managing the new system but I also planned to purchase some items off of Amazon and do a little trial on my own. Below is a link to my original post explaining why I chose this system, cost, etc. and a link to the items I purchased on Amazon. I will also supply a link to my week 2 post once I have that created so you can see the progress of my system and how my Amazon purchase is working out.

Thanks for joining me on my hydriponic journey. I’m loving it so far and getting very excited to see the fruits of my labor. Well…I probably should say “the labor of my Gardyn”.
